Believe it or not, water kills more trees than any disease around. The main cause of infiltration is IMPROPER FINISH CUTS DONE BY INEXPERIENCED ARBORISTS!!! (visit ”Paid Killers” for more information) Water infiltration causes root rot, mold/fungus, and attracts insects which lead to further issues. Water spots and infiltration are generally easy to spot. If you have a cradled union or a rotting old cut where water can sit for long periods of time, that is it’s starting point. Streak portions (may be small, and very few) of the trunk will have darkened bark where water is seeping out from the inside. The Darkened streaks will be visible for weeks after rain. You may be able to see dying in the tops of the tree in severe cases. If you are unsure, give us a call for a free health inspection!
Its sad to say… but some of you may have PAID to kill your own trees! When you hire the wrong company for your tree pruning, you may be signing the death warrant for your amazing trees. It hurts my heart to see my fellow arborists butcher a tree with improper cuts and care.. and they get PAID to do it!!! The size of the company makes no difference… I have seen some of the “best“ companys in the area leave trees nasty and exposed! Often times, perfectly healthy trees with incorrect or inaccurate pruning cuts will be extremely sick a few years after they are butchered. The worst part is most customers have no idea the beauty they are missing out on Because they put their trust in a ”professional”. I could live my entire life never harming another tree during a removal. I love to prune and make them beautiful! Let’s spread the word so we can help each other make our area as beautiful as possible!! NO MORE BUTCHERS!!!!!!!
These little guys are horrible. They wreak havoc on pine trees, especially loblollys. Within 6 months, your tree could be completely dead. They are classified as borer beetles, which means they bore into the tree to find nutrients. Bore holes and little wood shavings usually will be visible around the tree‘s trunk when infested. Once they take all the nutrients from the tree, they move on to the next pine victim. Typically infested pines will show signs of dying in tops or tips of branches where they were infiltrated. The worst part is, their is no getting rid of them. Death is certain for all pines infested with beetles. Give us a call before it’s super crispy and difficult!
Typically oaks suffer from this illness, mainly water oaks. Its much harder to identify this illness because most of the time the issue is underground. Some trees contract root rot, but compartmentalize (heal themselves) and continue to grow. This causes a tree to grow a larger base to counteract the interior rot. Most of the time, this illness is fatal because it makes the support and nutrient system of the tree very weak. Heavy water drainage and water concentration can cause root rot. A tree with root rot is potentially very dangerous. It could break loose and fall in any direction at any time. What you want to look for is water concentration in the bark. Interior rot creates darkened spots on the outside of the bark, usually where roots have grown together into the trunk. Another sign of root rot is dying in the tops of the trees. When a tree is sick in this way, nutrients are limited. the furthest point from the nutrient supply (the ground) will start dying first. If you see any of these signs, please give us a call before it gets nasty!!
When fungus is present on a tree’s trunk or codominant unions, very harmful damage has already occurred. Fungus feed on dead organic matter. Fungus growing on live trees near your home… is a very bad situation! Once fungus is visible, it’s too late for the tree. The likelihood for failure increases 100x when fungus is present! If your trees have fungus (aka mushrooms) call us today for your safety and to put your mind at ease!
